Two Standing Women
Two women are standing close together, one behind the other. The taller woman at the back looks over her right shoulder with her legs apart. Her jacket, reminiscent of a uniform, and the undergarment are particularly detailed. The woman in front seems to be wearing a hat and a fur coat. They are both turned to look to their right. This work reflects Schiele’s fascination with blurring traditional gender boundaries, and the two women’s eyes are fixed on us as if asking our opinions.
