Egon Schiele depicted this old house in Krumau in careful details and meticulous composition. It was a sketch for his 1915 painting House with Shingle Roof (Old House II). When transferring this work into the painting, Schiele omitted the structures beside and behind the house, creating an imaginary landscape. The drawing is enriched by applying different degrees of pressure to his pencil and providing a completely black window as a focal point.
