House and Wall in Hilly Landscape

Egon Schiele has left several paintings of the Southern Bohemian town of Krumau―today Český Krumlov, Czech Republic―his mother Marie Schiele’s birthplace. He was fascinated by the medieval landscape. In this contorted view, a house with a small tower is surrounded by fences. The crenellations on the wall on the right is likely a motif from real life that Schiele saw in Krumau, but the fence extending towards the back or the hilly landscape were intentionally changed from the real view.
