Stein on the Danube II
This view looks down at the Danube from a hill rising behind the riverside town of Stein on the Danube. Schiele was strongly inspired by historic view. He has combined the distinctive nature and buildings of this town with its particular atmosphere to create his own Expressionist style. While he was well acquainted with the local topography, he selected and rearranged the buildings as if creating a collage to paint his own view, different from the real one.
