Girl with Tilted Head (Gerti Schiele)

  • Egon Schiele (1890–1918)
  • 1910
  • Pencil on paper
  • Leopold Museum, Vienna

This girl, posing with her head slightly tilted back on her shoulder, is Egon Schiele’s sister Gertrude, who was two years younger than him. She was very close to Schiele and left deep impressions in his life and art. She appears frequently in his early works as his model. They were especially reliant on each other as both had troubled relationships with their mother.
