Self-Portrait (Bust)
This is a unique example of Egon Schiele’s self-portrait as a sculpture. His thick hair is combed backwards, with his head slightly tilted back to look into a distance. Schiele had interest in sculptures and was often inspired by works of sculptors including Auguste Rodin. He has left no direct reference to this work, first made in 1917. The present bronze cast was made in 1965 in an edition of seven.
