In 1906, Egon Schiele was accepted by the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, at the age of sixteen. He rebelled against the academy’s rigid, conservative teachings and left the institution in 1909. His undisputed talent was still recognized, evident even in this academic-style drawing made in the year he entered the Academy.
