Self-Portrait from Two Sides as a Painter

  • Poster for the Kokoschka Exhibition held at Kunstsalon Wolfsberg, Zurich
  • Oskar Kokoschka (1886–1980)
  • 1923
  • Color lithograph on paper
  • Leopold Museum, Vienna

Oskar Kokoschka used a self-portrait drawn in 1923 as a poster for his solo exhibition held at the Zurich art salon Wolfsberg in the autumn of the same year. Kokoschka represented himself as an artist and the protagonist of his exhibition, looking at the viewer with a brush in his left hand. This exhibition was a pivotal event that turned Kokoschka into an internationally acclaimed artist even outside of Germany and Austria.
