The Cotton Picker
In 1908, Oskar Kokoschka designed the poster for the Kunstschau by the invitation of Gustav Klimt and Josef Hoffmann. The angular and simple outlines, flat color planes, and the bold letters are typical of posters created by Vienna Secession artists. This poster shows stylistic parallels to Rudolf Kalvach’s poster for the same event. As Kokoschka and Kalvach attended the School of Arts and Crafts in Vienna together, it is likely that they inspired each other as colleagues.
