The man sitting in a chair on the left is Gustav Pisko, who owned the gallery where New Art Group held its first exhibition. Pisko enthusiastically advocated the aesthetics and innovative aims ofthe Vienna Secession artists who tried to break from tradition. He had close ties with the Vienna Secession artists and encouraged the progressive works of the young members of the New Art Group. He is especially known for his patronage of young Egon Schiele’s works and exhibitions, which helped him become an established artist.
