Silent Woman (Portrait of the Artistʼs Mother)
Anton Kolig submitted nine works for the 1911 show that took place at the exhibition hall of the befriended artists’ association Hagen Society. Hagen Society supported Expressionism pursued by young artists and helped them exhibit their radical works. The 1911 exhibition drew the public’s attention to the group. In this portrait, the figure of the artist’s mother in a dark dress stands out from a brightly lit background, achieving a silhouette effect.
