Stylized Flowers in Front of Decorative Background
After meeting Gustav Klimt in 1907, Egon Schiele’s style changed under the older artist’s influences. The square shape of this canvas was a format preferred for landscapes by Klimt, whose style can also be glimpsed in the ornamental shape of the plant or the almost empty background. The plant’s deep purple and orange flowers create a contrast with the flat background, which was colored with gold and silver pigments as in decorative arts.
