Breadbasket

  • Design: Koloman Moser (1868–1918)
  • Execution: Wiener Werkstätte
  • 1905/06
  • Silver
  • Leopold Museum, Vienna

This metal breadbasket is entirely decorated with small squares. Koloman Moser first used the typical pattern in 1904 and went on to employ them for tables, vases, and baskets. Those who commissioned works from the Vienna Workshop could make a choice between differently priced materials ranging from iron to silver, and although most metal products were perforated for decoration, the customers could also select the pattern they wanted―squares, clover leaves, and flowers.
