Postcard for New Year
This New Year’s postcard is part of a series of greeting cards designed by the Vienna Workshop for special occasions such as Easter, Christmas, and birthdays. The clown in red robe shows delight and excitement for the coming new year. The motif of a pig surrounded by flowers was also popularly used for New Year’s greetings in Austria and other European countries, as the pig was a symbol of prosperity and wealth. The words Prosit Neujahr, written at the top, means “Happy New Year” in German.
