This postcard was designed by Mela Köhler, a fashion designer and illustrator of the Vienna Workshop. Postcards were suitable medium for advertising the workshop. In this New Year’s card, Köhler depicted a woman dressed in fashionable muff, hat, and coat in front of a pattern of mushrooms and leaves. The printer of this postcard, Brüder Kohn, greatly contributed to the production and distribution of postcards, which subsequently became a popular form of art in the early twentieth century.
