Albin Egger-Lienz lived for about 25 years in the bustling cities of Munich and Vienna, yet always longed to return to his rural family home. He made paintings that were inspired by its pastoral landscapes and diligently depicted sowers, mowers, reapers, and resting locals on his canvas. Nevertheless, international exhibitions held in Munich and Vienna had a profound impact on him. He was especially moved by Auguste Rodin and developed a monumental and sculptural style influenced by him.
