The dark dress takes up the lower half of the canvas and accentuates the light skin of the woman’s face and neckline. With her head slightly tilted to the side, the sitter’s gaze is wistful and pensive. The background shows yellow wallpaper with a pattern of birds and colorful animals, which was commonly produced in the Vienna Workshop, established in 1903.
