Koloman Moser designed a series of stamps to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Emperor Franz Joseph I’s reign (r. 1848–1916). The emperor made a visit to the opening of the First Exhibition of the Vienna Secession in 1898. He was a supporter of the group to promote the cultural status of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and to emphasize Vienna’s central position in international art scene. Moser created different geometrical patterns to frame each stamp. The series was one of the works that allowed him to profess his aim of permeating all areas of life with art.
