Woodcut Series Depicting the Street with Beethoven Houses
Carl Moll created a woodcut series called Beethoven Houses that depict the houses in Vienna, where the composer Ludwig van Beethoven once stayed. He also painted places that are linked to the life of Beethoven, a figure revered by the Vienna Secession artists. This series was created in collaboration with the Vienna Workshop and showcases Moll’s clear and elegant style. After reaching its peak during the Renaissance, the woodcut technique went out of use before being rediscovered in nineteenth-century Europe and flourished in Vienna as well.
