This undated painting was likely made when Gustav Klimt was still a student. It is a portrait of a girl from the Haná region in Moravia, today a part of the Czech Republic. The girl wears a headscarf in the typical custom of the region. Her clothes and the background are rendered in almost the same grayish tone, drawing our attention to the detailed depiction of the face. Her sideways glance makes the viewer curious about what she is thinking.
